This book gives great descriptions and details. Each swimming holes has a picture. The book is over an 1in thick. It's almost like a paperback college medium sized textbook. I've already read through numerous swimming hole sections in a single night and I highly recommend this for everyone who wants to explore our great state's swimming holes.4/5(38).

This latest book in Timothy Joyce's "Swimming Holes of California" series contains about 30 new swimming holes that were not covered in his previous book, "Swimming Holes of 5/5(2). This book is a classic for people who want to swim in nature in California.

Locals will not tell you where the best swimming holes are, but this book does. The maps and instructions are very clear, with a realistic description of positives and negatives.

If you like to hike in nature and swim, my advice is to buy this/5(23). The book is organized by geographic regions, so you can quickly find local places to swim—or plan a trip to a more distant spot you'd like to explore. Each swimming hole is illustrated with an inviting color photo and a description of what it's like to swim there, as well as the site's history, ecology, and conservation/5(19).

Authors Anna Katz and Shane Robinson literally dove into their research to find the best swimming holes to share. They set the bar high: cleanliness and clearness of the water is paramount, but the beauty of the surrounding area, the company (or wonderful lack thereof), and the effort involved in getting there Swimming hole book also taken into account.

The middle age couple floating in the deeper water. The single woman reading a book on the grass. The crowds at Blue Hole do more than share the space, everybody is a part of the space.

Then the space becomes a part of them. We aren’t sure why crowds at one swimming hole make the place feel awful and at another place make it feel alive. Much of the information on this web site is derived from other sources - such as hiking and travel books, magazine articles, publications, emails from visitors and other Internet sites.

The intent is to relay this information as accurately as possible; I do not direct the public to use these swimming holes. This swimming hole is really bigger than a hole at acres, but what a place they have here.

Not only is the water nice, but they also have low and high diving boards. There is a small entrance fee into the park, but the swimming is free and there is a lifeguard on duty : Gwen Tennille. Maybe the clearest water anywhere, Fossil Creek is one outstanding swimming hole with a 25 foot cliff jump to boot.

The road in is a bit rough, but worth the trip. Read more → Havasu/Mooney Falls Supai. An eleven mile hike leads you to an oasis in the desert. This swimming hole was once voted America's best swimming hole by Life Magazine. The summer offers tempting swimming holes, about holes in all, some under the waterfalls.

This is a spectacular gorge and is a highly recommend hiking trip. The National Park Service has recently purchased the gorge and adjacent lands. A natural swimming hole is fairly low-tech, and once established requires only a modicum of management. You won’t have to drain the pool each autumn and, except for topping it off now and then, you’ll fill the pool only once.

Dig it. The easiest and least costly way to build a swimming pool is simply to hollow a hole in the ground. Here's a sampler from a local book on Humboldt's Natural Swimming Holes: With most of the waterways of Six Rivers National Forest winding through it, Humboldt County is blessed with an abundance of great natural swimming holes.

Christoval is unique among swimming holes in Texas. To start with it is in West Texas, a part of the world known for friendly people and dry land, not a part of the world not known for swimming holes. It almost seems unfair to start with the West Texas friendliness and also add some giant cypress trees lining a pristine river.
